Dream Of The Goshaap

Ishita Basu Mallik

Editor’s Note

“You’ve gotten fat,” Ishita begins, “on second-hand grief.” Does her subject, like the Bard’s  Lady Constance, have “reason to be fond of grief”? We are not told. This is a consolation the narrator comes offering a consolation: “Consider the millies”.

But as we read further and contemplate the images, things become less certain about who is talking to whom and exactly what is being offered. There is a koan-like quality to Ishita’s words which resists easy filing. Which is great. Which is what makes literature fun. Which is why we chose to offer it to you.
